Tarleton State Track and Field sweeps Men’s WAC Weekly Awards

STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State Track and Field swept the men’s WAC Weekly Award with Ca’terrin Cox and Johnathon Rodgers each being tabbed WAC Men’s Athletes of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.

The duo are the first Texan men to win a WAC Weekly Award this outdoor season. Cox picks up his second WAC outdoor weekly award and third total of his career. Rodgers earns his first WAC Weekly honor. During the indoor slate, the Purple and White men earned the award six times with four different individuals earning the honor.

Cox broke the 110 meter-hurdles school record in his outdoor season debut at the Clyde Hart Classic. Cox posted the second fastest time in the prelims clocking in at 13.87 seconds. The senior then placed second in the finals breaking an 18-year-old school record crossing in 13.74 seconds. Cox tied the previous mark of 13.77 seconds in 2024.

With his performance, Cox has the fastest time in the 110 hurdles in the WAC this season. The Ennis, Texas, native, also ranks fifth in the NCAA West region and 11th overall in the NCAA this outdoor season. The top 48 individuals in the West region will earn a bid to the NCAA West First Rounds in Fayetteville at the end of May. Cox was one of the 11 athletes the Texans sent last season where he placed 37th overall.

Johnathon Rodgers also posted a runner-up finish in the men’s trip jump at the Clyde Hart Classic. He posted the fourth-best jump in program history posting a best of jump of 15.23 meters. He led the entire competition before being passed in the sixth and final round of jumps.

Rodgers has the second farthest jump in the WAC this season. He also ranks 15th in the NCAA West and 33rd in all of the NCAA this season. The sophomore is in his first outdoor season as a Texan. In his first indoor season, he placed fourth in the long jump and second in the triple jump at the 2026 WAC Indoor Championships.

Tarleton State will be back in action starting on Thursday at the Texas Relays. The Purple and White will be sending a limited squad to one of the premiere events of the outdoor regular season.
