STEPHENVILLE — Both Tarleton State University rodeo teams made their fall season debut with championship titles at last week’s Cisco College Rodeo, held Sept. 10-12 at the Taylor Telecom Arena.
The men’s team took the overall championship with a total of 685 points, while the women’s team racked up their championship with 480 points. Faith Lundberg was crowned Champion All Around Cowgirl with a total of 160 points.
Twenty-seven students qualified for the Saturday night short round.
In bareback riding, Kash Loyd was crowned event champion with an average of 166.5 points on two. Teammate Taylon Carmody was reserve champion with a total of 155 points on two, Westen Chandler was third with 149.5 points on two, Jace Lomheim was fourth with 148 points on two and Clay Greenslade finished ninth with 77.5 on one.
Tie-down roper Travis Staley finished third overall with an average of 18.1 seconds on two, and McCoy Magin was sixth with 20.2 seconds on two.
Tarleton State was well-represented in breakaway roping, qualifying five to the short round. Reagan Talley finished fourth with an average of 15.3 seconds on two; Wacey Trujillo was sixth with 2.1 seconds on one; Taber Garcia finished seventh with 2.3 seconds on one; Faith Lundberg finished ninth with 2.4 seconds on one; and Clare Burcalow finished 11th with 2.5 seconds on one.
Jake Shelton was crowned steer wrestling champion with an average of 8.6 on two, while teammates Dain Ross finished sixth with 13.4 seconds on two, Wyatt Williams finished eighth with 17 seconds on two and Kreece Dearing finished ninth with 5.3 seconds on one.
Devon Hay was crowned saddle bronc riding champion with a total of 149 points on two. Teammate Tripp Kite was reserve champion with a total of 144 points on two; Colton Lewis took fourth with a total of 134 points on two and Clay Greenslade was fifth with 77 points on one.
Faith Lundberg was goat tying champion with an average of 12.3 seconds on two. Kaylie Garza finished third with an average of 12.4 seconds on two, while Rylee Abel, Wacey Trujillo and Colee Cox finished in a three-way tie for fourth with an average of 12.9 seconds on two.
In team roping, heeler Grady Wilson was crowned event champion with his partner Kolter Jackson from Ranger College. The team won the long go and short go, posting an average time of 10.5 seconds on two.
In barrel racing, freshman Skyler Nicholas was crowned event champion, winning the long go and short go and posting an average of 30.92 seconds on two. Patton Lynch finished sixth with 31.83 seconds on two. Taylor Hoxeng finished seventh with 31.85 seconds on two, and Makenzee Wheelhouse was eighth with 31.92 seconds on two.
Bull rider Brenson Bartlett finished third with a total of 147 points on two.
Both teams continue their fall schedules with appearances Sept. 24-26 at Sul Ross State University.
