STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State Volleyball middle blocker Onita Davis has been named United Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Davis is the first freshman to earn a conference weekly honor since 2022. The Colleyville, Texas, native was named to the UNT Invitational All-Tournament Team on Saturday.
Hitting .407 at Texas Tech to start out the week, Davis had 13 kills off 27 attacks. Having 15 kills against Arizona earlier this year, Davis became the second player in the program’s DI era to obtain multiple 10+ kill matches against Power 4 Conference opponents.
Davis continued her strong performance in the UNT Invitational, hitting .406 in the Texans’ final three non-conference matches. She matched her career-high of 15 kills while hitting .571 against East Texas A&M, leading the Texans to a win. Davis capped off the final non-conference match of the season with .316 hitting against West Virginia.
The impact of Davis has been immediate for the Texans in 2026. Davis is currently second on the team in kills and third in hitting percentage, accumulating double-digit kills three times. She was also named to the Wildcat Classic All-Tournament Team and had the most kills by a freshman against a Power 4 opponent, having 15 against Arizona.
Davis, the sister of 2025 All-American and SMU outside hitter Suli Davis, transferred to Colleyville High School in Colleyville, Texas, after moving from Laie, Hawaii. Recognized with the AVCA Best & Brightest Award, Davis earned Academic All-District honors three consecutive years. She also led her team to a third-place finish in the state playoffs. Davis was a two-time participant in the Samoa Bowl All-Star Game and selected for the TGCA All-Star Game in 2025.
Tarleton State returns to Wisdom Gym to start United Athletic Conference play next week. The Texans open the UAC era against UT Arlington on Tuesday at 6 p.m., with free ice cream from Baskin Robins being given to fans in honor of National Ice Cream Day.
