James C. ‘Jim’ Buck, II, 70, Commissioner of Precinct 4 of Erath County, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at his residence.
Friends of Jim may come by Stephenville Funeral Home on Sunday, September 27th between the hours of 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Visitation with the Buck family will be at 9:00 AM Monday morning September 28th at Cowboy Church of Erath County, and funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM with Werth Mayes and Ben McCleery officiating. After services on Monday, Jim’s wishes were cremation.
Jim was born on September 7, 1956, in Stephenville to the late James Calmes and Sally Standridge Buck. He attended public school in Stephenville, and was a member of Stephenville High School class of 1975. Jim married the love of his life, Deborah Lynn Shinn on August 30, 1975 in Stephenville. Jim was currently servicing Erath County as Commissioner of Precinct 4. In the late 70s, Jim lived in Kansas where he farmed with his brother-in-law, Greg Blackwood. In 1984 he returned back to Erath County, and work for his father-in-law, Jimmy Shinn, for Shinn Construction. In 1992 he began B & S Excavation, with his best friend Michael Dale Stone. Then in 2012 he began JB Farm & Ranch Contracting with his daughters & son-in-law
Jim loved the outdoors. He spent many years traveling to the mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, feeding the deer that came up to his home. Jim loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren
Jim enjoyed serving the people of Erath County as Commissioner of Precinct 4.
Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Deborah, daughters, Jennifer and husband Matt Aikman and Jamie and husband Brandon Shipman; eight grandchildren, Sierra Scheets, Alexis Aikman, Sheyenne Aikman, Ivy Aikman, Reese Shipman Raegan Shipman, Hannah Halford, and Cade Shipman, and nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Diann and husband Bill Robinson, and Michael Ann and husband Jay Mills; mother-in-law, Verna Dean Shinn; and sister-in-law, Kaye Shinn Smith and husband Scott, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jim was also preceded in death by a sister, Stephanie Pittman.
The Buck family wish expression of sympathy be made in the form of donations to any of the Volunteer Fire Departments in Erath County, or the Erath County Humane Society.
