Charles Edward Walton passed away surrounded by family on October 29, 2026, at the blessed age of 87. Charles, known as Chuck, Butch, or Paw Paw to his family and friends, was born in Brady, TX to Herman and Sammie D. Walton on January 29, 1939, and was the mischievous middle child in a family that included his older sister, Mary Helen Baxter, and younger sister Jane Ellen Keahey. Growing up in Brady and later Guthrie Texas, Butch developed a love for the outdoors while working at places like the famous 6666 ranch, where he displayed a knack of finding hidden underground sources of water using a forked stick. Butch was also known for his ability to fix practically any car or mechanical device, which propelled him into obtaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University. Butch then went on to work predominantly in the aviation industry during his career, which included nearly 3 decades working side-by-side with US Army warfighters while at Bell Helicopter on the H-1 and OH-58D programs.
Before attending Texas A&M, Butch enrolled in Tarleton University where he played football and became one of the beloved Tarleton “Poo”. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Sherry Jan Allen, whom he married in 1961 and remained faithfully committed to for over 65 years. Butch and Sherry went on to have three kids, Kelly, Nicol, & Nick, and have been blessed with 10 Grandkids, and 7 Great Grandchildren. Butch is survived by his wife, Sherry, his sister Jane, children Kelly, Nick & his wife Andrea, Joe Rodgers, Grandchildren Caity, Charles, Lukas, Jacob, Noah, Claire, Campbell, Aubrey, Aryn, and Thomas, and Great Grandchildren Rylen, Gage, Atticus, Davis, Vera, Evelyn, and John. Butch was preceded death by his parents, Herman and Sammi D, Sister Mary Helen Baxter, and daughter Merry Nicol Rodgers.
