(March 4, 2017) — Stephenville dominated Fort Worth Northside and played to a rare tie with Azle in a weekend-long classic at Kennedale Friday.
Kade Averhoff worked five masterful innings, allowing just a run on two hits while striking out eight and walking two in a 13-1 win over Northside. He helped himself with a two-run double, and got plenty of run support from his friends.
Chase Carrillo was 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, Aaaron Abila was 2-for-2 with a triple and 2 RBI, Clay Krause went 2-for-4 and J. Smith, Caleb Gibbons, Seth Heupel and Nolan Carroll each drove in a run.
The two-hour drop dead rule produced a 3-3 tie between Stephenville and Azle. Caleb Gibbons allowed two runs on four hits while striking out eight and walking four in four innings, then turned the mound over to Jerome Smith, who yielded a hit and an unearned run in an inning of work.
Easton Jones was 2-for-3 with a run against Azle while Heupel had a two-run single and Abila an RBI double.
The Jackets conclude their stay at the tournament against Kennedale at 6 p.m. Saturday.
