DUBLIN (February 14, 2015) — Cheyenne Holt was featured in one of hundreds of video submissions from across the state of Texas for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo – Rodeo Rockstar Video Round. And now, thanks to the support of her community and the rest of the thousands who voted, Holt is one of the top 10 in her age division to advance on.
“It’s very exciting,” she said of being chosen to compete on the Statoil Stars Over Texas Stage in Houston. “It’s a great opportunity to get to sing and play in front of new people, which is always great.”
Jennifer Meznarich, manager of exhibits and events for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, said over 40,000 votes were cast to determine the 10 finalists in each group (20 total). Holt said while she loved performing all around the local community, she was excited to play around people like Katie Key, of Key Music News, who will emcee the event; and the three judges – Cowboy Dave, from The New Bull @ 100.3 FM; Joey Guerra, a music critic for the Houston Chronicle; and Phil Nudelman, the Concert Video Director for Rodeo Houston.
This isn’t the first success Holt’s music career has seen. She’s also advanced to the Area FFA Contest, representing Dublin FFA in the Talent Division, and she’s performed at a number of community events around Erath and Comanche Counties.
“I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who got online and voted for me (for Rodeo Rockstar),” Holt said. “It’s so great to know that I have so many people behind me, supporting me through it all. That means a lot.”
