Morton named 8-4A Defensive Player of the Year

Bees also land two players each on first, second-team rosters

STEPHENVILLE (March 6, 2017) — Stephenville sophomore Jayci Morton has been named District 8-4A Defensive Player of the Year.

Morton led the Honeybees to the Region I-4A semifinals for the third time in five years after they finished second behind regional champ Godley in the 8-4A season.

Stephenville also had two players named first-team and two others second-team in a vote of district head coaches. First-team selections from the Bees are guards Jordan Carter and Payton Wall, both juniors. Second-team selections are guard Hailey Martin and post Tess Baker, also juniors.

Godley stars Jaycee Pannell and Makaila Tyer were named Co-MVPs, Ally Andress of Glen Rose offensive player of the year and Hailey Ibarra of Glen Rose and Jasmine Bailey of Midlothian Heritage Co-Newcomers of the Year. Sierra Lanz-Ross of Godley is the district’s sixth man of the year, and Godley coach Mark Chauveaux is coach of the year.
