Traffic signal, pavement work started on US 67 in Erath County

Flashing yellow arrow signals, single light to improve safety and mobility

ERATH COUNTY (September 19, 2017) – Crews will begin this week to rehabilitate the existing pavement on U.S. 67 in Stephenville and in the interest of enhancing mobility and safety, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be installing flashing yellow arrow signals at several intersections.  Various lanes will be closed as needed for completion of the project this fall, weather permitting.  IOC Company of Edinburg was awarded the project for $4.7 million.

Flashing yellow arrow left-turn signals are the new nationwide standard for signals where a driver must yield to oncoming traffic to turn left.  They will be gradually phased in to replace the traditional circular green signals currently used to let drivers know that they must yield on green. The six intersections on U.S. 67 where the flashing yellow arrow signals will be installed are at: Graham/SH 108, Alexander/FM 914, Lillian, Barker, St. Gobain, Wolfe Nursery and a new traffic signal at Harbin.

Research has shown that the new flashing yellow arrow signals are safer and more easily understood by drivers than the traditional “yield on green” signals. These new signals provide additional opportunities for a driver to make a safer left turn than traditional signals.
