(January 9, 2017) — Brianna Wise collected 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists to help Texas A&M-Commerce (9-5, 6-1)overcome 27 turnovers in a 68-62 victory to end the five-game win streak of Tarleton State (9-6, 3-4) Thursday.
The TexAnns had their chances. In fact, they led 55-54 following a Tiara Tatum 3 with 7:47 remaining at The Fieldhouse. But The Lions jumped right back ahead on the next possession and never trailed again. It was 61-60 before TAMUC scored seven of the final nine to pull away.
A&M-Commerce shot 46 percent and grabbed 44 rebounds to just 29 by Tarleton. Artejah Gay scored 13 and gathered eight boards, while Princess Davis netted 11.
Tarleton trailed by six entering the fourth, but 3-pointers by Nina Alvarez and Katie Webster fueled an 8-2 run to tie it up at 52-52.
The TexAnns were on top 39-38 with 5:20 left in the third, but A&M-Commerce dominated the rest of the period by a 12-5 margin.
The first half was back and forth with A&M-Commerce leading 25-20 before Tarleton closed it to 29-28 at the break.
Tarleton shot just 32 percent from the floor including only 23 percent from the arc, where the TexAnns went 7-30. Tarleton was led by Katie Webster with 15 points and six boards, Mackenzie Hailey had 13 and nine, respectively, plus five assists and McKinley Bostad scored 13 and in rebounds and assists tallied three each.
Tarleton visits Texas Woman’s in a rare morning start Thursday. Tipoff at Kitty McGee Arena in Denton is set for 11:30 a.m.
