STEPHENVILLE (January 9, 2017) — Stephenville continues to forge a strong presence in District 8-4A boys basketball, knocking off Alvarado 41-25 at Gandy Gym Tuesday evening.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 3-1 in 8-4A before visiting Godley on Friday. Expect the opening tip to fall somewhere between 7:30 and 8 p.m. following a girls contest.
In a game that was about defense, Stephenville had the better of the two, limiting Alvarado to 26 percent shooting including only 15 percent from the arc. Even when not guarded from the foul stripe, the Indians made exactly 50 percent, just 5-10.
The Jackets weren’t setting the world on fire either, but they did shoot a respectable 40 percent including 37 percent from three. They connected on 55 percent from the foul stripe, going 10-18.
The Stephenville scoring was as spread as it was as it was spread throughout the game, in which the Jackets in double figures in three of the four quarters, something Alvarado did not do once.
