The event, scheduled April 18 at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, recognizes professional registered nurses for their contributions to the communities where they live and work.
Pehl was nominated by Dr. Martha Sleutel, Texas Health Resources nurse scientist.
“I am honored by this recognition because I highly respect and admire the nurse who nominated me,” Pehl said. “I join a group of strong, passionate and powerful professionals. I have also been surprised and thrilled with the congratulations and support that I have received since the announcement of this award. It is so gratifying to know I have touched so many in a positive manner.”
Pehl has been with Tarleton since 1999 and a full-time faculty member since 2007. She worked at the Student Health Center as a nurse practitioner prior to joining the Department of Nursing.
In addition to her academic duties, she serves as the nurse scientist for Texas Health Resources Stephenville and is the local and system researcher for the healthcare organization.
Dr. Mary Winton, interim head of Tarleton’s Department of Nursing, said Pehl is an integral part of the program.
“Tarleton is very fortunate to have someone like Dr. Pehl,” she said. “Her expertise as a nurse practitioner and mid-wife is invaluable to the university.”
The April event honors 100 registered nurses nominated by their peers and selected for being role models, leaders, community servants, compassionate caregivers and significant contributors to the nursing profession. Those recognized come from all practice areas in nursing, including acute care, sub-acute care, school nursing, nurse leaders, academics and more.
Pehl is the second nurse from the Tarleton program to be a DFW Great 100 honoree. Diana Kunce-Collins was named in 2005.
