TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Tarleton scored early and often while holding Northeastern State to just one run in 10 innings to sweep Tuesday’s doubleheader at Riverhawks Park.

Game 1: Tarleton 12, Northeastern State 0 (5)

Tarleton belted four home runs while Megan Rosewell fired a complete-game, four-hit shutout to take the opening game of the twin bill 12-0 in five innings.

The TexAnns started things out quickly when back-to-back, one-out singles from Meghann Wrinkle and Nyka Wood quickly came home to score on a mighty swing of the bat from Megan Durante, who put Tarleton on top 3-0 with a home run in the opening frame. Following a strikeout, Marisa Flores decided three runs in the opening frame wasn’t enough and the senior second baseman went yard with a solo shot to extend the lead to 4-0.

Georgia Capell followed up the next half inning when the freshman drove home a pair with a two-run blast to to right field for a 6-0 advantage. For Capell, it’s her 10th home run of the season, marking the most by a true freshman in program history and the most by a TexAnn in a season since Katelyn Conlee hit 11 in 2015.

Tarleton wasn’t through scoring as Wrinkle plated two more with a two-RBI single in the fourth just before Tanna Huieteed off for a three-run jack later in the inning to cap off a five-run frame and push the lead out to 11-0. Nyka Woodtacked on the final run of the game with a bases-loaded hit by pitch in the fifth to make it 12-0.

The top six hitters in the Tarleton lineup combined for all 12 RBI and eight of the team’s 13 hits. Wrinkle led the way with three hits while Elizabeth Svienty and Maddie Quintanar boasted two hits each. Capell, Wood, Durante, Huie, Flores, and Lexi Grimaldo had one hit each to round out the 13-hit performance.

Meanwhile, Megan Rosewell was dealing. The senior right-hander twirled five innings of four-hit, shutout softball with just one walk and a pair of strikeouts to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Game 2: Tarleton 12, Northeastern State 1 (5)

In the second game, Tarleton once again only needed the minimum amount of innings as six Northeastern State errors opened the door for the TexAnns to take a 12-1 victory in five innings.

The game was scoreless over the opening two frames before Tarleton broke through on the run column in the third when Capell and Quintanar scored a pair of unearned runs on a Northeastern State throwing error for a 2-0 Tarleton lead.

Tarleton broke through with an eight-spot in the next inning when Destiny Crumpley stepped off the bench and delivered a two-RBI, pinch-hit single through the left side. Tarleton added an RBI sacrifice fly from Capell, a two-RBI single from Huie, and a RBI single from Grimaldo to go along with two more runs off Riverhawk errors to extend the lead out to 10-0.

After Northeastern State scored its only run of the day on a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth, the Riverhawks gave the runs right back with two-run error in the fifth to push the Tarleton lead back to 11 at 12-1. The Riverhawks stranded runners at second and third in the fifth but couldn’t extend the game any further.

Wrinkle and Grimaldo boasted three-hit performances while Huie added two hits of her own. Wood, Quintanar, and Crumpley had one hit each for the game to round out the 11-hit performance.

Jordan Withrow, the recently named LSC Pitcher of the Week, earned her 11th win of the season with a complete-game victory, over which she allowed one run on three hits and three walks with eight strikeouts in five innings.

Tarleton will stay on the road with a three-game series in Kingsville this weekend, beginning Friday night at 6 p.m.
