Sport: (December 6, 2014) — Cody Ohl must love the third round of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
The Hico cowboy won round three of the tie-down roping for the third time in his career Saturday night, and even set his own round three record with a blistering run of 6.6 seconds at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Ohl, 41, has almost $3.4 million in career earnings, and was looking for a big night after missing his calf in round two Friday. He was also in the money on opening night Thursday, taking fourth.

Area team ropers are also loving the Vegas lights.
Stephenville’s Turtle Powell and Morgan Mill’s Dakota Kirchenschlager took a night off from the winner’s circle, but
cowboys from Lipan and Huckabay stepped into the spotlight as the team of Clay Tryan and Jade Corkill split third and fourth with the tandem of Kaleb Driggers and Patrick Smith. Tryan and Corkill are second in the average, 1.3 seconds behind Powell and Kirchenschlager.

Bobby Mote made it three Huckabay cowboys in the money during round three. Mote scored 82.5 to take third in bareback riding, moving into a share of third and fourth in the average with a total of 242.5
Marty Yates finished outside the money a second straight night, but was a solid sixth with a 7.9 in the tie-down roping. Yates won on opening night, his first ride ever at the WNFR.
