G. K. Lewallen, 95, of Stephenville, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in Stephenville
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 16th at the First United Methodist Church in Stephenville with Howard Martin and Nolan Lewallen officiating. Burial will follow at Corinth Cemetery, Erath County. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, at Stephenville Funeral Home
G. K. was born on January 14, 1919 in Van Alstyne, Texas to the late Oscar and Daisy King Lewallen. He married Ethel Spanier on March 21, 1944 in Oklahoma City a marriage of 44 years, and the mother of their three children. Ethel preceded him in death on July 26, 1988. On April 19, 1990 in Sweetwater, Texas, G. K. married Nita Brooks. G. K. was a rancher, a business owner, and had lived most of his life in Erath County. As a rodeo legend, he spent many years in the arena riding roughstock, was inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, and the Cowboy Capital Walk of Fame.
G. K is survived by his wife, Nita; son, Nolan of Stephenville; daughters, Cindra and husband Chick Elms of Stephenville, and Tula and husband Robert Vassel of West Hampton, New York; step-son, Louis and wife Charlotte Brooks; step-daughter, Leigh and husband Doug Odom; grandchildren Chad and wife Stephanie Elms, Chayla and husband Ken Horan, Clint Elms, Conner and wife Caitlin Elms, Garett Vassel, Aaron and wife Stacey Lewallen, Noelle Lewallen, Seth Lewallen, and Lauren and husband Alex Penner; step-grandchildren, Lorie Lawrence and husband Charles Ralph, Shasta Brooks and husband Scott Zogbaum, Boyd Brooks, and Brooks and wife Christe Lawrence; and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, and first wife, Ethel; G. K. was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Zandra Lewallen; brothers, Oscar Marvin and James Francis Lewallen; and sister, Gladys Lewallen Longoria.
