(March 2, 2015) — Mullin could only slow Huckabay down for so long.
Not near long enough.
District 18-A champ Huckabay sped up the game in the second half and outscored Mullin 30-17 over the final 14 minutes of a 54-40 area playoff victory at Hamilton High School Monday.
Now comes an even tougher challenge – a regional quarterfinal matchup against Throckmorton, with both team’s on one night’s rest. That game is 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mineral Wells.
The Indians did their part to get there with a 13-5 run to take a 35-28 lead at the end of the third and then pulling away in the fourth.
Gavin Fuentes kept Huckabay close in the first half, scoring 13 of the team’s 20 points. The senior finished with 23, hitting three 3-pointers along the way. JW Weiss knocked down four treys and scored 16 for the Indians, who connected on eight shots from behind the arc as a team.
Cade Little hit the other 3-pointer and scored nine of his 11 in the fourth quarter. Ky Bray contributed two points and Levi Dowell one.
