ALLEN & STEPHENVILLE (March 6, 2015) — Greg Winder has been promoted to head coach of Stephenville’s powerhouse football program. But that wasn’t the only significant move made during Friday’s called meeting of the Stephenville ISD trustees.

The board approved the hiring of Winder then also moved and approved the hire of Alan Haire as athletic director. Haire has been at Mabank for a brief period of time after a stint at Lago Vista working under Matt Underwood, now the first-year superintendent at Stephenville.

Haire was one of the candidates interviewed for the head coach position, but Underwood and the search committee ultimately decided to present Winder as their loan finalist for that spot.

Mike Carroll had served as interim athletic director since Joseph Gillespie left his post as athletic director and head football coach on January 23 to become linebackers coach at the University of Tulsa. Carroll has been assistant athletics director since 2008 and is also head athletic trainer.

Gillespie, a Stephenville native who spent 20 years on staff, was promoted to head coach in 2008 and led the Yellow Jackets to a state championship and six quarterfinal appearances in seven seasons.
