STEPHENVILLE (March 29, 2015) — A senior college-era school-record 31 wins, a spot in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the third time in school history and final four for the second time, a third South Central Region Championship and also for the first time, the unified league-wide regular-season Lone Star Conference title.
Tarleton State had a lot to celebrate from its 2014-15 men’s basketball season, which concluded in the national semifinals at last week’s Division II Elite Eight tournament in Evansville, Indiana.
And celebrate they did at Wisdom Gym Monday.
With a speech from US Congressman Roger Williams, who recounted a chance meeting with Tarleton players at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport when they departed for the Elite Eight, a presentation of the university Core Values Coin from Tarleton State President Dr. F. Dominic Dottavio to head coach Lonn Reisman, and a presentation of a Key to the City of Stephenville to Reisman by Mayor Kenny Weldon.
That’s not all Weldon did, delivering an official mayoral proclamation forever naming March 30 as Tarleton State University Texan Basketball Team Day in Stephenville.
There was a highlight video played for the team, special guests and, of course, the fans, a couple hundred of which gathered for the event, along with the TSU Foul Play Band, the Tarleton cheerleaders and Texan Stars dancers and yes, even the Purple Poo.
There were standing ovations, whistles and shouts of approval, especially when the last few seconds of the South Central Region Championship, played on March 17 in front of raucous Wisdom Gym crowd, were replayed for all to experience over again.
Players were presented mini replicas of the regional championship trophy, with the large proudly on display for all to see and enjoy.
