ERATH COUNTY (April 2, 2015) — A 34-year-old man was transported to a Fort Worth hospital via air ambulance Thursday morning after the pickup he was driving left the roadway along FM 1189 just after 8 a.m. The pickup collided with a tree less than a mile east of US Highway 281, just down from Morgan Mill ISD, north of Stephenville.
According to the DPS Trooper on scene, it is suspected the driver fell asleep as there were no indications the man applied the brakes before leaving the road and hitting the tree. First responders from the Erath County Volunteer Fire Rescue, Morgan Mill VFD, Erath County EMS and Cross Timbers First Responders arrived to find the driver trapped with an open ankle break. He was extricated and transported to the CareFlight ambulance by the volunteers and EMS.
