TexAnn Softball up one spot in latest regional poll

STEPHENVILLE (April 23, 2015) – After taking three of four in last weekend’s final home series against Texas A&M-Kingsville, Tarleton State has moved up to the No. 9 position of the latest NCAA regional poll.
The TexAnns improved to 25-19 on the season, including a 12-10 mark in Lone Star Conference action that has the TexAnns in fourth place in the league standings heading into this weekend’s finale in Portales. The LSC continues to dominate the poll with six members in the region’s top 10.West Texas A&M and Angelo State lead the way at No. 1 and 2 in the poll while the Heartland leader, St. Mary’s and Rocky Mountain Athletic leader, Metro State are sitting at No. 3 and 4, respectively. Cameron and Regis are at No. 5 and 6 while Texas Woman’s and St. Edward’s round out the top eight.

Midwestern State fell three spots from last weeks and round out the poll at No. 10.

Of the top 10 teams in the region, four are ranked in the national top 25 poll by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association – West Texas A&M at No. 2, St. Mary’s at No. 7, Angelo State at No. 13 and Metro State at No. 19. Cameron received votes in the latest national rankings.

The NCAA South Central regional tournament will consist of the tournament champions of the Lone Star, Rocky Mountain Athletic and Heartland conferences as well as five at-large teams. The top two seeds in the region will be the tournament host for 16 different, four-team regional tournaments that will lead to a Super Regional Tournament before the National Championship finals.

Tarleton will be on the road this weekend for the final series of the regular season with four game in Portales, New Mexico against Eastern New Mexico.
