AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) is excited to celebrate Travel and Tourism Week from May 2-10, 2015. In Texas alone, the travel industry contributes more than $70 billion to the state’s economy and employs 1.1 million Texans. This week is a time to recognize the travel industry’s importance to the state’s economy and the lives of Texas residents.
“Texas communities, both large and small, play a vital role in Texas agriculture, tourism and our economy,” Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller said. “I encourage all Texans and Americans to visit rural Texas communities and stay to experience the sights and sounds of the Lone Star State. I hope folks will come out during Travel and Tourism Week and throughout the year. With a state as diverse as Texas, there is always something to do, and I hope everyone has an opportunity to enjoy our great state.”
During Travel and Tourism Week, TDA encourages Texans and out-of-state visitors to take the time to visit and enjoy the many museums, sporting events, fishing and boating opportunities our state has to offer. The Lone Star State is home to many parks for individuals and families to enjoy outdoor adventures like camping, hiking, swimming and more. In addition, Texas restaurants, wine trails, farmers markets and pick-your-own farms will satisfy everyone’s taste for a Texas-sized meal or beverage.
