ERATH COUNTY (June 26, 2015) — With temperatures in the 90’s all week and the National Weather Service predicting several hot, humid weeks to come, Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant said he hopes his annual fan drive will give relief to local residents.

Every year, the sheriff’s office purchases fans to give to local families and senior citizens in need. According to Bryant, the fans are given to any family with small children or senior citizen who is at risk in the high temperatures. The sheriff’s office will even deliver the fan if the residents can’t get to town for whatever reason.

Fans like this one are being distributed by the Erath County Sheriff's Department to those residents who have small children or senior citizens to help keep them cool this summer.

While children and seniors are the main focus of this drive, Bryant and his deputies know first-hand that any adult can get overheated during hot summer days. Some of the symptoms of heat induced sickness include weakness, feeling tired or dizzy, headaches, nausea and muscle spasms or cramps.

If you are outside and experience these symptoms, get inside, drink water, make sure air is circulating around you and try to relax. This is where the fans come in. Bryant and his staff provide these fans to those residents who need them in order to keep air inside homes circulating and temperatures inside those homes cooler.

“We’ve been doing this for several years with lots of success,” Bryant said. “It’s just another way we here at the sheriff’s office can help the residents of Erath County, and we’re glad to do it.”

To find out more about the fan drive or to request a fan, contact the sheriff’s office at 254.965.3338.
