STEPHENVILLE (June 30, 2015) — Caught in an emergency and need to think fast? There’s now an app for that.

Tarleton State University has launched a new safety and security mobile app, Tarleton eduSafe, available for both Apple and Android phones and tablets.

The Tarleton eduSafe app was developed as a helpful tool in the event of severe weather, an active shooter situation, gas leaks, terrorist threats, or other emergency situations.

Tarleton eduSafe features access to emergency procedures, easy signup for the Tarleton Code Purple text messaging service, security escort requests and parking maps for the Stephenville campus. Users now can access essential emergency procedures anywhere, at any time, without a WiFi or data connection.

From a suspicious person to natural disasters, Tarleton eduSafe will help students, faculty and staff handle any situation. Previously, these instructions were only available online or in bulky flipcharts. With the university’s new app, these procedures and information are now accessible on mobile devices.

Witness something questionable or suspicious on campus? Tarleton eduSafe also provides a form allowing users to report any hazardous conditions directly to the university’s Risk Management & Compliance office staff. This form may be submitted anonymously, if desired.

Walking on campus and feeling unsafe? The new app allows users to request a security escort to walk them to any building or parking lot on campus. A direct phone line will connect users to the university security desk, where campus security will send an officer to assist.

Need to locate a building on campus? Tarleton eduSafe features maps of all on-campus buildings.

The new, free app is available for download via Google Play and the iTunes Store by searching “Tarleton eduSafe.”

Developed by the Texas A&M Health Science Center and adapted for all Texas A&M University System member institutions, the app is managed by and allows communication directly with Tarleton’s Office of Risk Management & Compliance.

Additional features include:
Contacts – Get rapid access to Tarleton’s mission-critical safety and security staff with one-touch dialing. Each campus-specific safety or security contact live-updates the server to ensure the most up-to-date information.

Emergency Procedures – Keep all of Tarleton’s emergency procedures at your fingertips. Save paper and confusion with in-app emergency procedures that will be accessible regardless of data connection or cellular signal.

Hazard Reporting – Keeping Tarleton’s campuses safe is a job for everyone. Report safety hazards by including a picture and description. Users can choose to include their contact information for Risk Management & Compliance staff to follow-up with those making a report.

Clery Reporting – Get instant access to the most updated versions of the Clery Act reports for any Tarleton campus.

In the coming months, a planned update to the mobile app will include availability of Title IX information, an updated parking lot map, as well as allowing automatic push notifications, including Tarleton’s Code Purple emergency notification system.
