Trudie Olivia Horton Butler, ended this life on July 3, 2015, at the ripe old age of ninety-seven. Born on March 7, 1918, she was the first child of Calvin and Bessie Horton. She was raised in Beattie, Texas, where she graduated Valedictorian of the Beattie High School Class of 1935.

Trudie and sister Earlene formed a gospel quartet along with Mary Lizzie and Irene Fisher. Their great claim to fame was being on the radio station in Dublin, Texas, in the late 30’s and early 40’s. On September 6, 1941, Trudie married Boyd W. Butler. To this marriage four daughters were born. Boyd and Trudie continued the music, singing in many area churches, always on the program at Sand Hill Easter Singing. She worked many years in the sewing factory in Dublin to help support the family. After retirement she returned to her love of fabric and thread, being recognized and awarded for her needle skills in embroidery and quilting. In a life that transitioned from horse and buggy to those “little” phones she never quite understood, she became Mama Butler or Mama Trudie to family and the Beattie Community. She had a love of God, life, and friends, and treasured her church family at Taylor’s Chapel Methodist Church.
