AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) is asking youth from across Texas to submit their photos illustrating how Texas agriculture touches their lives every day. Contest entries will be featured in a photo slideshow in TDA’s Food and Fiber Pavilion at the State Fair of Texas in September. The top photos in each category also will be printed and showcased at TDA’s headquarters in Austin.
“The greatest natural resource we have in this state is our youth,” Commissioner Miller said. “With only six percent of our farmers and ranchers under the age of 35, now more than ever, it is imperative that we support this critical segment of agriculture, because Texas agriculture matters.”
Contest entries will be accepted electronically through Sept. 1, 2015. The contest is open to amateur youth photographers in two age categories: ages 12 and under, and ages 13-17. Photographers may submit up to three photos per category, and there are no restrictions about using photos submitted in other contests.
All entries should tell the story of why Texas Agriculture Matters. Below are the categories:
- Farm Fresh Food: Send photos depicting how agriculture touches your life every day through food. Show us food that inspires you, moments that remind you where your food comes from, and a glimpse at the people who grow, raise, process and prepare your food!
- Fascinating Fiber: Show us the importance of fiber in your life. From the clothes you wear to the sheets you sleep on at night, fiber is found in unexpected places. Tell us the story of agriculture and fiber in your life. Remember to focus on Texas products.
- Sensational Selfies: Get creative! Submit photos of you and your favorite meal, your favorite moment at the farm — anything that inspires you. Use your imagination and turn the camera on yourself to tell us why Texas Agriculture Matters to you.
