Tarleton’s Dr. James Vardalis tapped by Greater Granbury Veterans Council

STEPHENVILLE (August 19, 2015) — The Greater Granbury Veterans Council has appointed Tarleton State University’s Dr. James Vardalis its new executive director. The council serves Hood, Somervell and Erath counties—home to more than 8,700 veterans.

The council promotes public support for U.S. military veterans, including representation before elected officials and the dissemination and exchange of information at meetings and seminars. The council includes senior representatives of American Legion Posts 278 and 491, Marine Corps League Detachment 1297, the Greater Granbury Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7835 (Hood and Erath counties), Veterans Service officers and community leaders.

A professor of criminal justice, Dr. Vardalis also serves as director of Tarleton’s Military Veterans Services Center. The center, which opened in November 2011, provides educational guidance and assistance to military veterans and their families. Currently, more than 450 veterans and dependents of veterans are enrolled at Tarleton.
