Stephenville teams place third, fifth at Keene Invitational

STEPHENVILLE (September 8, 2015) — Stephenville and other area schools raced into the 2015 cross country season Friday at the Keene Invitational, where the SHS boys were third and girls fifth.

The Yellow Jackets finished with 154 points, just five behind second-place Keene in the 22-team field that was dominated by 6A Duncanville with just 27 points.

The top stephenville runner was sophomore Gilberto Garcia. He was ninth, covering three miles in 16 minutes, 48 seconds. Riley Forehand finished 25th in 17:52, Petro Manriquez 37th in 18:18, Miguel Carrillo 49th in 18:34 and Jose Hernandez wrapped up the scoring in 49th in 18:36.

The other Stephenville runners were Evan Moody, 52nd in 18:41, and Kendall Williams, 75th in 19:22.



Stephenville scored 139 points in a much tighter girls competition won by Paradise with 63. The Honeybees were fifth, 37 points behind 6A Duncanville and 40 ahead of host Keene.

Leading Stephenville was Emily Kirbo in 16h place with a two-mile time of 12:57.77. Shelby Woods was 29th in 13:25.79, Peyton Woods 33rd in 13:27.32, Kayliana Castillo, 35th in 13:32.59 and Kate Daugherty 39th in 13:39.53.

Other Bees in the varsity field were Alissa Adams, 41st in 13:43.38, and Odalys Salazar, 48th in 13:53.

Dublin was 12th in girls and 13th in boys.

Leading Dublin and all local runners in the two-mile girls race was ninth-place Juana Cervantes with a time of 12:46.16.Melissa Martinez was 64th in 14:25.49, Miriam Almazan finished 81st in 14:51.40, Valeria Garcia claimed 86th in 14:57.12 and Diana Caballero crossed the line in 90th in 15:05.28.

The displacing runners for Dublin came in together – Sesily Aguirre 113th in 15:45.94, and London Jones 114th in 15:48.48.

The Dublin boys were paced by Mark Ybarra, the 15th runner to finish three miles in 17:16. Daniel Rodriguez was 57th in 18:51, Brent Stephen 84th in 19:33, Cole Gilliland 117th Adrian Flores 118th in 20:43, Angel Escobar 119th in 20:44 and Juan Rodriguez 127th in 20:57.

Both Dublin and Stephenville will compete in Hico starting at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Bluebonnet Invitational.
