Tarleton star Coughlin wins Ken Garland Invitational

DENTON (Stephenville 12, 2015) — The Tarleton cross country teams competed at the Ken Garland Invitational hosted by the University of North Texas for their first meet of the season with senior Aly Coughlin winning the women’s individual race and the men’s team coming in fourth overall followed by the women’s in fifth.

Coughlin finished the 5k meet with a time of 17:52.99, a personal best in the 5k. It’s the first cross country win for the 2013 Lone Star Conference Newcomer of the Year and was her first meet to compete in since 2013 after redshirting last season.

The meet featured Division I and Division II teams and the two divisions were scored separately. Both the Tarleton men’s and women’s team won their respective divisions against Division II opponents.

The men’s team, who ran a 4-mile run, came away with 92 points and was led by Tye Doty‘s seventh-place finish with a time of 19:41.43. Dylan Willett came in 17th with a time of 20:16.68 followed by Chase Rathke (20:23.82) and Dallas Rushing (20:24.16) coming in 20th and 21st, respectively.

Luke Scribner rounded out the scoring for the men’s team by finishing in 30th with a time of 20:39.45.

On the women’s side after Coughlin’s top finish was Katelin Huckabee in 28th by running a 19:23.56. Tylo Farrar came in 37th (19:36.67), Haley Dennard placed 52nd (20:30.80) and Audrey Shelton‘s 56th-place finish (20:44.90) finished the women’s scoring for Tarleton.
