Ranger College debuts at No. 13 in USTFCCCA poll

RANGER  The Ranger College men’s cross country team is beginning to turn more than a few heads.

Only days after winning the Cowboy Classic at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, the Rangers debuted at No. 13 in the initial United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s national poll. The poll, which was released on Sept. 16, ranks the top 25 small school track and field programs in the nation.

Ranger College has turned in a pair of solid outings since the start of the 2015 season, placing in the top three in both of its first two outings. The team is scheduled to run in the Oklahoma Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater on Sept. 26.

Ranger College totaled 68 points in the poll and finished just 12 points shy of No. 10, which was held down by North Iowa Area Community College.

Central Arizona was tabbed the nation’s top squad. The team received 159 points and seven of the eight first-place votes turned in by the pollsters. Iowa Central Community College was second at 150.

South Plains, Ranger College’s top rival in the region, was tabbed third, finishing just ahead of Iowa Western Community College and Allen County Community College.

South Plains was ranked No. 1 in the women’s national rankings.
