TexAnn golf wins Metro State tourney

AURORA, Colo. (September 29, 2015) —  The TexAnn Golf team is coming back to Stephenville with a first-place trophy after winning the GolfScrimmages.com National Championship Preview tournament in Colorado.

After taking a four-stroke lead into the final round, Tarleton stayed ahead of the pack throughout the second day and shot a 299 (+11) to total 588 (+12) for the tournament.  Tarleton finished seven strokes ahead of second-place finisher Dallas Baptist for their first tournament win of the 2015 season.

Isabel Jimenez-Perea climbed four spots on the individual leaderboard to finish in a four-way tie for second after carding a 73 (+1) in the final round and ended the tournament at even par. The senior had 26 pars and five birdies.

Sierra Langlie from Augustana University won the individual leaderboard with a 2-under par 142 overall.

Beatriz Prados had the biggest jump of the day for the TexAnns, moving up 12 spots to finish in a three-way tie for eighth with a 2-over-par 146. Prados matched Jimenez-Perea with a team-best 26 pars and added four birdies in the two days.

Sarah Gee logged her first top-10 finish of the year with a scorecard of 2-over-par 146 to place eighth. Gee led Tarleton with seven birdies and had 20 pars.

Tarleton had three players finish in the top 10 out of 100 participants. The TexAnns accomplished the feat twice last season, including at the Lone Star Conference tournament.

Casey Wild finished in a four-way tie for 24th, carding a 152 (+8) in the tournament. The sophomore had 19 pars and five birdies.

Kerbey Kipp had her best finish of the season at 35th while moving up six spots after shooting a 78 in the final round and totaling 155 (+11). Kipp was third on the TexAnns with 21 pars and added a pair of birdies.

As a team, Tarleton had 112 pars and 23 birdies in the tournament.

The TexAnns will compete in the Dallas Baptist Classic at the Golf Club of Dallas on Oct. 12-13.
