BREAKING: Accident south of Stephenville now a fatality

STEPHENVILLE (October 21, 2015) — A bus crash approximately four miles south of Stephenville Wednesday took the life of the front seat passenger, confirms Texas Department of Public Safety Senior Public Information Officer Dub Gilliam.

The deceased has been identified as Brent Wayne Gilbert, 39, of Weatherford. He was the stepson of the driver, Kenneth M. Roberson, 69, of Weatherford. Roberson was transported by Erath County EMS to Texas Health Harris Methodist Stephenville Hospital. His passenger was taken by Air Evac and later died at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, according to the report from Gilliam.

A 1983 MCI Bus was traveling on US Highway 281 south of Stephenville when the front right tire blew out. The bus went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree, according to the report.

Erath County Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Selden Volunteer Fire Department were among the responding units. DPS trooper Justin Becker and Sergeant Lynn Pierce investigated the accident.
