Our beloved, Garry Lewellen went straight to Heaven on November 25th, 2015. Garry was born on November 10th, 1947 to Ted and Nita Lewellen in Temple, TX.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, November 30, 2015 at the Cowboy Church of Erath County. Interment will follow at West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday at the Stephenville Funeral Home.

Garry graduated from the University of Texas, in 1970, with a degree in Political Science. He subsequently attended the University Of Texas School Of Law, while serving as Governor Preston Smith’s Student Affair Advisor for all college campuses within the state. Licensed since 1973, Garry was authorized to practice law before the United States District Court, Northern District of Texas and United States Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit. He was also admitted to practice before United States Supreme Court since 1977.

Garry’s awards included a recipient of Client Distinction Award by Avvo the only attorney to receive a 10 rating who routinely practiced in a 9 county local area. He also was named The Criminal Defense “go-to” Attorney in a survey by Texas Lawyer and also was named best attorney and best law firm by voters in the Reader’s Choice award, a regional publication in Texas. He was also selected as one of the top 100 trial lawyers in Texas by the National Trial Lawyers.

Garry was named as one of the top 10 Criminal Defense Attorneys in Texas, the highest honor bestowed by the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys. He received the Martindale Client Distinction award having obtained an “Excellent Rating” for his straight talk and willingness to exceed Client expectations. He was further honored to be included among the exclusive 1% of attorneys elected to the Texas Bar Foundation. He was also included in the 2015 Best Lawyers in America the oldest and most respected Peer-Review publication in the legal profession.

One of Garry’s greatest honors came from his clients, who often described him as a listener who cares. In the courtroom when advocating for his clients, Lewellen was known to be more tenacious than a junkyard dog. He has been given numerous awards that gave him the highest possible rating given to a Texas attorney for professional excellence, ability and ethical standards.

Garry served as the Tarleton State Student Legal Advisor, assisting both students and faculty with legal issues for over 30 consecutive years. He also remained an active member of the President’s Circle, promoting scholastic achievement and scholarships at the University.

He was an active and proud member of the Bluff Dale National Guard.

The world has lost and incredible man. Garry was known for his kindness, integrity, character and loyalty. Garry never met a stranger and though his selflessness was always there to help others.

In his free time Garry loved spending time at their ranch in Bluff Dale with Beth and their grandchildren.

Survived by his wife, Beth Lewellen and their three children, State Lewellen and wife Page of North Richland Hills, Kanna Myers and husband Robert of Coppell, and Lambra Lewellen of Austin, and their mother, Bev Lewellen. He adored his 7 grandchildren, Grant Lewellen, Emily Jones, Mackenzie Myers, Colt Lewellen, Kate Jones, Claire Lewellen, and Anabell Lewellen; sister, Cindy Lewellen of Temple; sister-in-law, Sandy Lewellen and her husband Bud Schwart of Bryan; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bonnie Barber and Andy Hochberg of Newton, MA; and his long-time compadre, Primo Villeda.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Nita Lewellen of Temple and his brother, Larry Lewellen of Bryan.

He was survived by lots of friends and other family members and of Upmost Importance his current Ace Office Team and many former office teammates who were always and are always on call and Ready to Pull the Trigger for Garry.
