The Sloters moved several times as they were transferred by Caterpillar, including 3 years in Brazil.

During this time Oakley and Charlene served as lobbyists for TANE (Texas Alcohol and Narcotics Education) in the Texas Legislature and served in various roles in the First Baptist Church of Pharr and Stephenville and later at Rocky Point Baptist Church in Stephenville. Through all these years she was a Christian witness and sought to reflect Christian values in all that she did.
