This letter to the editor was sent in by Stephenville City Council member Jerry Warren. It was also featured in his latest “Show and Tell” piece in the Stephenville Empire-Tribune.
It’s been a good year. The sales tax funded Economic Development Corporation was approved by a large margin by the voters, paperwork approved by the state and a group of seven great people appointed to the board. Hopefully, a well-qualified director will be hired very soon. Recently, Noah Cullis was hired as new director of Building and Services. This department is in charge of permitting and code enforcement among other things. Things “in the works” include a new Multipurpose Center. You might want to keep a close eye on this as to what goes in it and the price tag involved. Please let your wishes be known to the council. The “east side sewer project” is being studied as to both engineering and cost. This much needed project will be expensive. Around $13 to $18 million has been mentioned, but the project will take a lot more study. Campaign time will soon be here. Seats up for vote will be 2-held by Boyd Waggoner, 4-held by Russ McDanel, 6-held by Alan Nix and 8-held by Jerry Warren. Also up will be the mayor-held by Kenny Weldon. Should be fun. Please let your thoughts and wishes be known.
