STEPHENVILLE (December 14, 2015) — Many will remember Tonya Suzzette McLain, 40, as the woman who kidnapped a two-month-old baby from a driveway in Stephenville in May 2014.
McLain stood before District Judge Jason Cashon and plead guilty to aggravated kidnaping Monday morning. This means she will spend nine years in prison, will have to pay a $1,000 fine and has waived her right for an appeal, according to court officials.
She set off a hunt in May 2014 by taking the child from the mother’s vehicle in the driveway in Stephenville. The hunt would end hours later in Dublin when relatives realized the situation and called authorities.
McLain was arrested at that time and held on $50,000 bond in the Erath County Jail until her trial. She will continue to be held there until she is transferred, according to jail officials.
