STEPHENVILLE (January 26, 2016) — Tarleton State University’s fourth annual Brass Day, a workshop for high school musicians, is set for Saturday, Jan. 30, in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.

Hosted by the Department of Fine Arts and the university’s bands, the event features master classes, faculty showcases and opportunities for young musicians to work with professional musicians in a small-group environment. An evening concert featuring Brass Day clinicians and Tarleton faculty rounds out the day.

Clinicians are Tony Baker, University of North Texas, on trombone; Rex Richardson, Virginia Commonwealth University, on trumpet; and J.D. Shaw, University of South Carolina, on horn. Tarleton faculty participating in the concert are Dr. Kim Rooney Hagelstein on horn, Dr. Bill Haugeberg on trombone and Dr. Brian Walker on trumpet.

“Brass Day is a great event for our students and the community,” said Walker, assistant professor of trumpet. “To have a high-caliber group of musicians from top-notch collegiate music programs on our campus is a wonderful opportunity. Tarleton students will get a chance to learn from each of the clinicians and benefit from their professional experience.”

The Brass Day concert begins at 5 p.m. in the auditorium of the Fine Arts Center. Day passes, $25, include admission to the evening event and can be purchased by calling Walker at 254-968-0744. Tickets for the concert only are $15 and can be purchased at the box office beginning at 4 p.m. event day.
