Wayne Thompson, born July 28, 1929 in Abilene, TX to parents Frank and Irene Thompson, passed away on January 28, 2016 in Hico. Mr. Thompson was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a helicopter pilot in three wars: WWII, Korea and Vietnam. His hobbies included whittling and woodcarving, and he was known for the canes he handcrafted. Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Mary Dell Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Bobbie Thompson, as well as by his son, James Wayne Thompson, daughter, Charlene Ellenberger and husband Rick, daughter, Susan Irene Carrol, stepdaughter, Gay Lynn Manning, and stepson, Keith Reed. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson as well as 6 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren.
Service Information
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, at Harvest Hills Funeral Home in Hico. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 31 at the First Baptist Church of Hico with burial in the Hico Cemetery.
