FORT WORTH (February 3, 2016) — True to its commitment to help North Texas meet its growing workforce needs, Tarleton State University’s Fort Worth campus adds two graduate programs and two graduate-level certificates to its 2016 fall semester lineup.

New programs are a master’s in communications studies, a master’s of public administration, a certificate of organizational communication and a certificate of social media.

“All four programs are tailored to meet individual educational and career goals, with classes offered evenings, weekends and online—convenient for a diverse population of working adults,” said Dr. Phil Sudman, executive director of Tarleton-Fort Worth. “The addition of these programs is a true testament of our commitment to increase educational opportunities, position Fort Worth for continued prosperity and improve quality of life for today’s families and future generations.”

For fall enrollment, students first must apply to Tarleton’s College of Graduate Studies. The deadline to apply is five business days prior to the start of fall classes on Aug. 22.

To gain full admission to the master’s and certificate programs, students must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, with a 3.0 GPA on the last 60 hours of undergraduate study. Applicants with an undergraduate 3.0 GPA or higher are admitted in good standing and not required to submit a GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) score. Students with an undergraduate GPA between 2.5 and 3.0 are admitted conditionally and must submit a GRE score for review within the first semester.

Students who complete the 30-hour, non-thesis master’s in communications studies also receive both the new certificate of organizational communication and certificate of social media as part of the degree. Or, if just seeking one of the graduate-level certificates, students can complete three classes (nine credit hours).

The 36-hour master’s of public administration includes courses on intergovernmental relations, public personnel administration, public budgeting and finance, and public policy. In addition, students take a look at smart city initiatives as well as comparative and futures studies associated with innovative, effective and socially responsible government.

The master’s of public administration program has both non-thesis and thesis tracks. The non-thesis track requires a comprehensive exam to graduate. To learn more about the master’s of public administration, visit tarleton.edu/degrees/masters/mpa/.

Current Tarleton-Fort Worth programs are offered in the Hickman Building, 6777 Camp Bowie Blvd., and the R.C. Shaffer Building, 1501 Enderly Place. A new 80-acre campus is planned in southwest Fort Worth just off the Chisholm Trail Parkway.
