STEPHENVILLE (February 17, 2016) — Local residents, property owners and others who need a helping hand are invited to sign up for the Saturday, April 2, Tarleton State University Round Up—the university’s largest single-day service project.

This year marks the 18th annual Round Up and organizers are accepting applications for potential job sites in the Stephenville community. The deadline to apply and request volunteers for your job site is 5 p.m. Friday, March 18.

Job site applications are online atwww.tarleton.edu/leadership/roundup.html, or request a copy from Student Leadership Programs coordinator Erin Warner email ewarner@tarleton.edu. Once completed, applications can be hand-delivered to Tarleton’s Department of Student Engagement in Room 103 of the Barry B. Thompson Student Center, faxed to 254-968-9735 or mailed to: Tarleton State University – c/o Round Up Committee, Box T-0690, Stephenville, Texas 76402.

Services offered through Tarleton Round Up include window washing, cleaning and sweeping, painting, hedge trimming, dirt moving and digging, leaf raking and bagging, general garden and lawn work, recycling and document shredding, and household hazardous material disposal. Any job that requires the use of power tools or engine-driven equipment will not be accepted.

Tarleton Round Up is a student-led, student-initiated project held in cooperation with the city of Stephenville, Keep Stephenville Beautiful and Progressive Waste Solutions. This year, it kicks off a Week of Service with activities to benefit the community planned throughout the week, including a Day of Giving on Tuesday, April 5, and a Day of Service on Thursday, April 7.

“We are privileged to continue the tradition of giving back to the Stephenville community through this student-led initiative,” said Lauren Motloch, graduate assistant with Tarleton’s Department of Student Engagement. “While job sites commonly consist of yard work and cleanups, our student volunteers also make connections and enjoy spending time with members of the community.”

Last year nearly 700 students, staff and faculty volunteers rallied to complete 81 job sites in the community. This year the Tarleton Round Up Coordinating Committee hopes to have 1,000 volunteers complete 100 job sites. Volunteer applications will be accepted until the day of the event; however, organizations should register groups prior to Feb. 26.

Due to its popularity in past years, Round Up again offer recycling and document shredding services to the community. A drop-off point for recyclables as well as household hazardous materials, including paint, batteries, oil, automotive lubricants and garden herbicides and pesticides, will be available on the visitor’s side (Harbin Drive) parking lot of Memorial Stadium.

In addition to serving Tarleton’s home community of Stephenville, Round Up expands in 2016 to include the university’s outreach locations in Waco, Midlothian and Fort Worth, where students, faculty and staff will host service projects on April 2 in their respective communities.

To make such a large service project a success, organizers are looking for assistance from individuals and businesses.

“We are currently accepting donations as well as sponsorships, and all contributors will be recognized on our Round Up event banner. We are in need of rakes, shovels, trash bags, brooms and other basic supplies,” said Motloch. “We could not make this event happen without the support of the community.”

Donations may be dropped off at the Department of Student Engagement or a Round Up coordinator can schedule a pickup time.
