ERATH COUNTY (February 22, 2016) – Erath County Commissioners met and approved a measure to finance the two new Ford Explorer vehicles purchased for the sheriff’s department and took no action on a measure to enact a burn ban for the county.

According to Erath County Fire Chief Chris Brooks, the county is still at high fire danger after Sunday evening’s rain, but with more predicted for Tuesday, he was sure the county wouldn’t need the burn ban. Brooks said a few counties surrounding Erath have already placed burn bans on their residents, however, he and commissioners agreed it was not yet necessary in Erath County and no action was taken. Brooks agreed to keep commissioners and County Judge Tab Thompson informed about developing dangers and risks for fire weather.

In other business, commissioners approved a measure that will allow Thompson to sign the contracts and pay schedules for the two new Ford Explorers that were purchased for the Erath County Sheriff’s Department. According to ECSO officials, the new SUVs were purchased to replace the two Chevy Tahoes that were totaled last year.

“We have been extremely happy with our Tahoes, but there have been two price increases since we bought the last ones,” Sheriff Tommy Bryant said of the change in the department’s vehicle lineup. “We always strive to be fiscally responsible and after some research decided to go with the Fords. And, being all-wheel drive, the Fords will greatly help our deputies on muddy or icy roadways throughout the county. The new Explorers are great vehicles and we are very proud to have them.”

Other items approved by commissioners included:

• budget changes – line-item transfers, budget amendments, the receipt of unanticipated funds and more

• clearing fence rows on County Road 255 (Pct 1) and County Road 128 (Pct 4)

• the county’s First Responder & Provider Agreement (annual)

• the North Central Texas RAC regional programs participation agreement (annual)

• a lease for a new postage machine for the Dublin Tax Office, and

• salary changes for a Pretrial Diversion Officer.
