STEPHENVILLE (February 24, 2016) — Stephenville opened district play with a dominating 4-0 victory over Mineral Wells at Lem Brock Field Wednesday.
The only things slowing down the Stephenville attack were the rain that delayed the game one day and the performance of the Mineral Wells keeper who made six saves in the opening 37 minutes.
Stephenville kept charging and finally broke through when Erin Couch found the back of the net in the 39th minute. They extended the lead when Codi Beyer finished off a break in the fifth minute of the second half, again when Peyton Wood fired home a rebound off a thunderous shot by Skylar Chipman and once more when Bayleigh Chaviers broke through on the second Chipman assist.
Stephenville was in control throughout, even when it was scoreless the first 38 minutes. Savannah Alford put a header off the cross bar and fired one off the cross bar at the other end in the second half. A corner by Chaviers almost snuck in, hitting the far post, the same Alford hit earlier in the half.
Jordyn Howle faced little to no pressure minding the Stephenville net, and the defenders in front of her likewise had a slow evening as Stephenville won almost everything in the midfield.
It is the 14th consecutive match without a loss for Stephenville, 13 of those wins. The lone draw came against Argyle. They put the streak on the line again Friday when they visit Abilene Wylie at Bulldog Stadium.
