ERATH COUNTY (March 8, 2016) – Many readers have expressed concern as to why there were no storm sirens as the system that moved through did major damage and even produced a tornado. Those concerns grew as residents learned the National Weather Service in Fort Worth recently confirmed a tornado touched down in Stephenville and Erath County Tuesday morning.

The Flash Today has obtained the following statement from Stephenville PD Sgt. Sha King:

“The city did not sound the storm sirens because we did not receive any warnings or watches from the National Weather Service,” King said. “The only notice we had was the notice of severe thunderstorm warning that went out at 6:41 AM.”

Only in the last hour (3:15 p.m.), did NWS classified the tornado as an F-1.
