(March 17, 2016) — Ranger College knew it would be making waves with the hiring of Billy Clyde Gillispie to lead its men’s basketball program.
But the ‘Final Four’ in year one under the former Kentucky, Texas A&M and UTEP head coach?
Believe it.

No. 11 seed Ranger College (31-5) jumped out to a 51-35 halftime lead over No. 3 Georgia Highlands (33-2) and was ahead by at least six through the bulk of the second half before winning, 91-81, in a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I quarterfinal in Hutchinson, Kansas Thursday night.
Ranger advances to face No. 7 Hutchinson Community College, the host of the event, at 8 p.m. Friday. Hutchinson also pulled off a quarterfinal upset, running away from No. 2 Northwest Florida State, 116-90.
The other semifinal is also between two teams not expected – based on seedings – to be there. No. 13 Salt Lake (Utah) will be facing No. 8 Gillette (Wyoming). The championship is 8 p.m. Saturday, following the 6 p.m. third-place game.
