Three Yellow Jackets earn all-district accolades

(March 30, 2016) — Stephenville punched its tickets to the Region I-4A Boys Golf Championship Wednesday, completing the two-round 6-4A district tournament in second place with a total of 688 strokes.
Stephenville held off third-place Brownwood by a comfortable margin of 26 strokes. The Yellow Jackets were 35 strokes behind district champ Graham.
Three Yellow Jackets earned all-district status by placing among the top 10 individually From Stephenville I, Colton Jeffress was fourth with a two-round total of 162 strokes, and Clay Krause fifth overall at 165. From the Stephenville II team, Jake Henriksen finished two rounds in 174 for ninth.
Stephenville II placed seventh in the nine-team tournament, finishing in 780 strokes.
Each team has at least four players, no more than five. The fifth score is dropped from each team round. Jeffress scored 83, Krause 84, Bunker Funderburgh 90, Kendall Roberts 94 and Luke Weber’s 100 did not count in the opening round last week. Jeffress shot 79, Krause 81, Roberts 88, Weber 89 and the 91 of Funderburgh didn’t count on Wednesday.
Funderburgh finished at 181, Roberts 182 and Weber 189. Joining Henriksen on Stephenville II were Tyler Lane, 192, Rosser Orr, 203 and Grant Isham who did not finish.
The Region I-4A Boys Golf Championship is April 11-12 at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock. Maddi Grimes of the Stephenville girls qualified for regionals earlier this week as an individual medalist. She will compete April 13-14, also at Shadow Hills.
