(April 11, 2016) — Stephenville is no longer unbeaten in 6-4A softball, but the Honeybees still hold a one-game lead atop the district standings.
Stephenville (20-8, 4-1) is idle on Tuesday and welcomes Mineral Wells to McCleskey Field on Teacher Appreciation Night Friday. First pitch is about 7 p.m. following a 5 p.m. junior varsity contest.
The talent has proven to be evenly distributed across 6-4A, and the margin between victory and defeat has proven a thin one. While Stephenville was surrendering six two-out runs including the game-tying and winning runs in the seventh inning of a 7-6 loss at Brownwood, Graham was upsetting Mineral Wells, 2-1, in 10 innings.
That means Stephenville is the only team in the league with just one district loss. Mineral Wells and Wylie have each lost twice, putting great importance on the next two games for Stephenville. After hosting Mineral Wells Friday, the Bees visit Wylie on Tuesday, April 19.
Kali Smith got back on track from the plate against Brownwood, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jessica Howell was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Sami Shaffer and Morgan DiCiccio were each 2-for-3.
The Honeybees had 12 total hits but surrendered 14 as Brownwood powered its way to vengeance following a 2-1 loss at Stephenville when each team opened district play.
