ERATH COUNTY (May 2, 2016) – Bad weather is to blame for a two-vehicle accident that occurred just after 8 a.m. Monday on US Highway 281, approximately seven miles south of Stephenville.

According to Texas DPS PIO Sr. Trooper Dub Gillum, “The roadway was slick due to recent rains when a 2006 Chevy Colorado pickup driven by Robert Eary, 33 of Hewitt, was headed north on 281 and started to hydroplane. The pickup entered the southbound lane and struck a 2009 Toyota Highlander driven by Blanca Herrera, 42 of Stephenville head on.”

Scott Doty, 33 of Waco, was a passenger in the pickup and was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville along with both Eary and Herrera by Erath County EMS. All were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

Gillum reported Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Scott Roundtree investigated the accident and cited both drivers for infractions. Eary was cited for driving on the wrong side of the roadway – not passing and Herrera was cited for driving without a valid driver’s license.
