STEPHENVILLE (May 7, 2016) Russ McDanel, Stephenville mayor pro tem, was at the Erath County Courthouse prior to the closing of the polls Saturday, eagerly awaiting election results.

But voting totals favored his opponent, Carla Trussell, setting the stage for upset.

There were ballots were cast 882 votes cast, 62.07 percent (555) in favor of Trussell over McDanel (37.93 percent, 327).

Trussell is a retired teacher who campaigned for maintaining the funding of current services and against unnecessary spending.

While place 8 appeared on the ballot, Boyd Waggoner withdrew from the race after the deadline. Still 42.25 percent of voters backed Waggoner over Jerry Warren, who took 57.75 percent of the 774 ballots cast.

Mayor Kenny Weldon ran unopposed, as did Brady Pendleton, place 4, and Alan Nix, place 6.
