STEPHENVILLE (May 13, 2016) — Verizon Wireless is no stranger to Erath County. But now the mobile connectivity and phone service giant has a premium retailer in Stephenville.
“Being here and becoming more of a part of this wonderful community is exciting for us,” said Verizon District Manager Adam Cantu, who was here for the store’s grand opening festivities Friday. “Previously the nearest store was in Granbury 30 minutes away. This way we can provide great customer service locally as our network is improving every week with new towers going up.”
Cantu and store manager Tom Cody confirmed Verizon is in the process of placing towers in Dublin, Hico and Comanche to greatly expand its signal. Despite Verizon service being lost currently as one ventures from Stephenville to Dublin, the company already services 37,000 customers in Erath County, Cantu said.
The Verizon store is across from Walmart SuperCenter in the old Kentucky Fried Chicken fast food restaurant that went out of business following a kitchen fire.
Save the ‘KFC’ etched across a battered mailbox in front of the building, however, one would never know the Verizon store was once a popular fried chicken stop.
“Coolers, electrical, we still have coolers back there not active. And the od0r,” laughed Cody as he described some of the obstacles to converting a fast-food restaurant into a hub for mobile connectivity. “We had to do away with the drive thru windows and, of course, the inside is totally restructured.”
Cody leads a staff of four regular employees at the Stephenville Verizon Premium Retailer. Cantu and others have also been around helping get the store off the ground since its opening on December 18.
“We are happy to be in Stephenville, the county seat here in Erath County,” Cantu said. “We look forward to serving the people of this great community.”
