New faces on the Dublin Council

DUBLIN (June 13, 2016) – The Dublin City Council welcomed another new face, appointed a new mayor pro-tem and approved the re-platting of 117 N. Grafton Street for Dr. Brandi Harris, DDS.

Following a brief public hearing, the council unanimously approved a measure that will allow Dr. Harris to see patients on Grafton St.

City Secretary Rhonda Williams administered the Oath of Office and swear-in the four newly elected members of the council. They are Ward 1 – Tino Talamantes, Ward 2 – Darrell Curry, Ward 3 – Layne Golden and Ward 4 – Mac McMullen. Council members then appointed John Johnson as Mayor Pro-Tem.

Council members continued with the numerous remodels and repairs from the storm damage on city facilities. They unanimously approved a roof committee recommendation on City Hall and the Dublin Police and Fire Station and requested staff go out for bids on those jobs. In addition to the larger buildings, the council also approved the roof committee’s recommendation for the roof on the Dublin Depot and authorized the staff to go out for bids on that job as well.

Another measure included the approval of the school logo to go on the FM 219 side of the city’s water tower and the city logo to be placed on the Hwy. 6 side after the water tower has been repainted. Dublin city officials would like to remind residents what they see on the tower now is a primer, not actual paint. It will be covered up with approved paint colors and the logos.

Williams and the Fraser Agency presented the council with information regarding the new city employee health insurance policies. The city’s old insurance was able to put the city in a different bracket due to a loop hole and drop the city from their current policy. The Fraser Agency and Williams worked closely to find the city a new, similar policy that will only increase the cost less than $5 per employee. The new policy was approved.

Before adjourning, the council appointed Darrell Curry as liaison in a city land purchase that has previously stalled, approved City Public Works Director Cory James to dig an open ditch drain at the old city yard pending a FEMA report that could help the city repair the drain, and approved Williams to upgrade the council’s electronic devices when she renews the contract with AT&T. The old iPads will go to department heads with the city and council members will receive new iPads.
