STEPHENVILLE (July 8, 2016) — After a day of thrills that included a late comeback to win its pool on Thursday, nothing went Stephenville’s way in opening round play in the championship bracket Friday morning in the Adidas Texas 7v7 Division II Championship.
Argyle began the game with a stop, scored quickly and led throughout in a 39-12 beating of the Yellow Jackets, who made their earliest exit from either the championship or consolation bracket since 2012 when they were stunned in overtime of a first-round battle with Burnet.
Kade Averhoff and Kyle Lindsey each had touchdown receptions from Easton Jones in the loss. Jones tossed 19 TDs in four state tournament games. The scoring catch was the first for Averhoff while Lindsey hauled in his second TD of the event.
Stephenville went 17-6 in state qualifiers and state tournament play. The Jackets were also 5-3 in scrimmages for a summer record of 22-9.
